Influence of Art in Yellowstone

"Influence of Art in Yellowstone" is an electronic field trip developed by staff of the Whitney Gallery of Western Art and Education Department of the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in cooperation with Yellowstone National Park. This online experince brings to life the painters and photographers who helped convince the United States Congress to establish Yellowstone as the first national park in the world, and reveals the artists' understanding of natural forces that created the Yellowstone landscape. The field trip also explores the role of art in the national parks today.

The 40-minute field trip features digital images of paintings and photographs, as well as lesson plans designed to extend the online experience.

This project is the result of an educational grant from "Parks as Classrooms" and a cooperative partnership with the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. "Parks as Classrooms" is a nationwide program that invites students and educators to learn about our national parks provided through a generous grant to the Yellowstone Park Foundation in memory of Katie L. Rhoads.
