Planning a road trip to the Buffalo Bill Historical Center? Take a look at these driving directions:
With six Federal Highway Administration (FHA)-designated Scenic Byways in the Cody area, it's clear: Some of the most scenic drives in the United States lead right to the Buffalo Bill Historical Center.
From the North
Montana 310 connects Interstate 90 with Wyoming 120 from Billings, Montana, a route with no high altitude driving.
For a picturesque alternative from Red Lodge, Montana, take US 212, the Beartooth Scenic Byway—also called an All-American Highway—one of the top twenty drives in America. (Open summer months only; high-altitude driving.)
US 212 leads to Wyoming 296, the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway. At the intersection, continue on US 212 to the northeast entrance of Yellowstone National Park (This section of highway is open in summer months only.), or take WY 296 to WY 120 and on to Cody (high-altitude driving).
From the Northeast
Just west of Sheridan, Wyoming, take the Ranchester Exit off Interstate 25 over the Big Horn Mountains (high altitude driving) by way of US 14A to Lovell and Powell, Wyoming, via the Medicine Wheel Passage which is open in summer months only.
From the South
Travel on Interstate 25 to Casper, Wyoming, and then take the Shoshoni Exit to connect with US 20 to Thermopolis, Wyoming, and then WY 120 north to Cody, a route with very little high altitude driving.
Or, continue north on Interstate 25 to Buffalo, Wyoming, and then follow the Cloud Peak Skyway Scenic Byway, US 16, through Ten Sleep and Worland, Wyoming, and then US 20 northwest to Cody.
From the East
Just west of Sheridan, Wyoming, take the Ranchester Exit off Interstate 25 over the Big Horn Scenic Byway on US 14 to Greybull, Wyoming, and then US 14/16/20 west to Cody.
From the West
Through Jackson, Wyoming, and Yellowstone National Park on WY 191 to WY 14/16/20, the Buffalo Bill Cody Scenic Byway to Cody.
