Passages From ThorofareFifty Years of Living and Working in the Remote Teton Wilderness 2005 marks the fiftieth anniversary of the construction of the Wyoming Game & Fish Department's Thorofare Patrol Cabin. To commemorate this event, we have gathered the following stories documenting the experiences of wildlife professionals working in the Thorofare region. Authored by Game & Fish personnel, this collection of essays chronicles their adventures in an area often called the most remote location in the lower forty-eight United States . Also included in this collection is information gathered from interviews with those who were involved in building the cabin. These recollections provide a historical account of their efforts to construct this wilderness outpost during the summer of 1955. Prepare to relive their adventures, retrace their steps, and feel the magic of a place called Thorofare. Passages From Thorofare . . .Information Collected and Assembled by: Lin Bashford Tim Fagan John Hyde Nancy Liebert Allison Wildman Connie Vunk AcknowledgementsThis collection of stories is dedicated to the adventurous log men, horsepackers, cooks, and carpenters who constructed the sturdy walls of the Wyoming Game & Fish Department's Thorofare Patrol Cabin. Today, as in the past, the Thorofare Cabin continues in its role as a wilderness outpost, offering refuge and safety to Game & Fish personnel working in the backcountry. Thank you to all Wyoming Game & Fish Department personnel, both past and present, for providing written and verbal accounts of their experiences and adventures in Thorofare. Through your efforts, a piece of backcountry history has been preserved for the benefit and enjoyment of future generations. We especially wish to thank the staff of the Buffalo Bill Historical Center . It has been through their vision and expertise that this collection of stories has been made available for public viewing.
