The 2008 Lloyd New Art Mentorship Program
Roger Broer - Artist/Mentor

July 19-27, 2008

PROGRAM HOME

The Lloyd New Art Mentorship Program is an intensive one-week workshop for five young Plains Indian artists, chosen to participate in an immersive experience involving mentorship by a well-known Indian artist.

I perceive my major strength as a 'no holds barred' approach to painting. How a painting is accomplished is of little value when in retrospect one observes the sense of spiritualism in the finished product.

I think, sometimes, when I am alone, usually when I am making art, about the elements in nature around me. I like to ponder relationships. How everything has its own significant place…how everything is somehow related to everything else. How…most importantly, we don’t readily understand these relationships, yet if one element is missing, an emptiness exists.
– Roger Broer
