Maryanne Andrus joined the Buffalo Bill Historical Center as The
Brown Foundation, Inc. of Houston Director of Education in June 2002.
Mrs. Andrus came from Dearborn, Michigan where she served as curator of
research at the Dearborn Historical Museum.
Prior to that, Mrs. Andrus was affiliated with The Homeplace – 1850 Living
History Farm Museum in Golden Pond, Kentucky. For the first four years,
she was domestic arts lead interpreter, followed by a six-year stint
as director. While in Kentucky, she headed a new interpretive approach
to educational programming that described humans in the environment
as a dynamic force in natural history.
Mrs. Andrus has also held the position of consulting folklorist for the
Arts Council for Chautauqua County in Jamestown, New York. She has
also served as assistant reference librarian at the Scholes Ceramic
Library at Alfred University in Alfred, New York, and at the Herrick
University Library in Alfred. While working towards her master's degree
at Utah State University, Mrs. Andrus held the position of women's staff
coordinator and assistant archivist at the Fife Folklore Archive.
Mrs. Andrus has spoken widely on folklore, living history, period clothing,
and women's historical issues. At Utah State University, she earned
a bachelor's degree in American history and master's degree in American
studies, with dual emphasis in museum studies
and folklore. Mrs. Andrus was named Co-Director for the Cody Institute for Western American Studies in 2008.
