An economics graduate of the University of Illinois, Dean Swift joined Sears as a management trainee in 1966. During his tenure with Sears, Mr. Swift served in a number of capacities including operating superintendent in Elkhart, Indiana and group sales promotion and advertising manager in Evansville, Indiana. After that he managed stores in Columbus, Indiana, Rapid City, South Dakota, and Niles, Illinois. In 1986, he became group manager for 85 Sears stores in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and Michigan, followed by a stint as assistant to the vice president of Sears catalog. He retired from Sears in 1993, and joined the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in 1994.
