Smithsonian Institution Affiliations Program
The Buffalo Bill Historical Center is a Smithsonian Affiliate - the first in Wyoming. The mission of Smithsonian Affiliations is to diffuse the rich knowledge of the Smithsonian Institution in meaningful ways to a broad audience, in accordance with the highest aesthetic, intellectual and professional standards.
Smithsonian Affiliations fosters and augments relationships with museums, cultural, and educational organizations across the country - like the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. By facilitating the sharing of the Institution's collections, exhibitions, scholarship and programming, Smithsonian Affiliations aspires
to create experiences and opportunities to broaden perspectives on science, history, world cultures and the arts in the public we are committed to serve.
Smithsonian Affiliations are among the most comprehensive forms of Smithsonian national outreach. They are the framework through which long-term relationships are developing with museums large and small throughout the country. Affiliations mean that the Smithsonian Institution can more
broadly share its artifacts, programs and expertise with museums like the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. However, the affiliation is also a two-way street. The BBHC can now network and forum with the more than 150 affiliates, and those institutions can borrow objects from us, furthering the Buffalo Bill Historical Center onto the national stage.
