| Our collections include printed and electronic library materials
and resources, original archives and manuscripts, photographs, microfilm,
subject vertical files, and sound and video recordings. Subject areas
collected relate to the history and culture of the American West,
with major strengths in the following: Western American art and artists;
the Plains Indians; Buffalo Bill and his Wild West; American firearms
history and technology; and the natural history of the northern Rocky
Mountains and Great Plains.

We are a non-circulating library, in that our materials may only
be used at our facility at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. The Library Exhibition
Gallery, adjacent to the reference room, permits rotating exhibits
that relate to McCracken Research Library collections.
According to the Buffalo Bill Historical Center's Code of Ethics, under no circumstance may staff members appraise objects either as part of their normal daily duty or as an independent service.
