August 1997 - September 15, 2003
Venue: Canyon Visitor Center, Yellowstone National Park
As a partnership between the Buffalo Bill Historical
Center and Yellowstone National Park, a special natural history exhibition
titled Where the Buffalo Roam was developed for the enjoyment
and education of YNP visitors. The focus of the exhibition being the
Yellowstone bison herd, its significance as the last free-roaming
herd of wild bison in North America, and its place in the Yellowstone
ecosystem. Where the Buffalo Roam explored such issues as visitor
safety, the relationship between bison and predators, brucellosis
and other issues associated with bison migration, as well as conflicts
within the scientific community.
Life-size taxidermy, photographs and replicas of
art and other museum objects helped tell the story. The exhibition
had a life of six years, and was updated periodically with new information
and materials. |
