T.D. Kelsey: realist, romantic, and inspired sculptor
Now On View Whitney Gallery of Western Art Recent Gifts
A special exhibition, T.D. Kelsey: realist, romantic, and inspired sculptor, is now on view in the Recent Gifts area at the entry to the Whitney Gallery of Western Art.
Cody, Wyoming was one of Sidni Kelsey’s favorite places in the world. Thus, it is appropriate that the Sidni A. Kelsey Collection found its home at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center.
Donated by her loving husband and featured artist T. D. Kelsey (b.1946), the remarkable gift includes the first cast of 166 sculptures by Kelsey. The exhibition showcases ten of these first cast bronzes – beautiful sculptures ranging from pack horses to African and Arctic animals to bucking broncs and a massive bull bison – an icon of the Plains.
The Sidni A. Kelsey Collection encompasses the development of the
artist’s career from early works to major accomplishments. His work draws inspiration from horses, wildlife, and cowboy life. The Whitney Gallery is proud to show the work of T. D. Kelsey – one of the most talented contemporary sculptors in the West today.
