Whitney Gallery of Western Art
CURATORIAL INTERN
Objective: The Whitney Gallery of Western Art presents an outstanding collection of masterworks of the American West. Original paintings, sculptures and prints trace artistic interpretations of the West from the early 19th century to today.
This position introduces the intern to the daily operations in an art museum, particularly gaining knowledge of curatorial, collections, documentation, research, exhibition, and education facets of the Whitney Gallery of Western Art. In addition, the intern has one specific project they are expected to perform from start to finish.
Level of Responsibility:
Reports to: Whitney Gallery of Western Art Curatorial Staff: John S. Bugas Curator of Whitney Gallery of Western Art and Curatorial Assistant.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
· Assists with interpretation of Western American Art, including exhibitions and education
· Assists with acquisitions and collections care
· Assists with art documentation and research
· Assists with general office operations
· Works with curatorial staff to develop a collections-based educational project or interpretive material.
Qualifications:
· Enrollment in accredited college/university art or art history curriculum with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better (4.0 scale) in field of study.
· Demonstrated verbal/written communication skills.
· Demonstrated superior research and computer skills.
· Graduate students preferred, but exceptional undergraduate candidates will be considered.
