COLLECTIONS MANAGEMENT INTERN
Overview: Works with the Collections Manager and Deputy Collections Manager to learn appropriate methods and techniques for museum object care and handling.
Level of Responsibility:
Reports to: Collections Manager & Deputy Collections Manager.
Essential Functions:
Skill set:
· Maintains a daily journal.
· Reviews appropriate professional literature.
· Translates visual information into a written report.
Programs:
· Assists the collections managers with fulfilling work orders.
· Examines collections for condition and prepares condition reports.
· Maintains appropriate documentation for activities related to collections movement.
· Designs and fabricates museum object packing and crating.
· Cleans and prepares objects for storage, exhibition, or travel.
· Attends to general maintenance of permanent and temporary exhibitions.
· Inspects pest traps and completes written reports on the integrated pest management program.
· Assists with the installation or takedown of collections.
· Attends collections workshops or seminars as possible.
· Performs additional duties, either incidental or implied, consistent with the employee’s background or training or which may be reasonably delegated as being in the best interest of the Buffalo Bill Historical Center.
Qualifications:
· Enrollment in accredited college/university curriculum and in a course of study leading to a degree in museum studies, art, anthropology, history, or related field with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better (4.00 scale) in their field of study.
· Physical ability to lift 30 pounds and maintain a static position; average physical strength and endurance.
· Basic computer skills.
