BBHC Internship Program
The Buffalo Bill Historical Center offers summer internship programs
providing specialized learning experiences in a museum setting.
PURPOSE
The BBHC Summer Internship Program provides opportunities
for students who want to gain practical museum experience, and to
assist students in the development of new or expanded applications
for their academic and professional interests.
BBHC Internship Programs offer students hands-on involvement with the museum profession in a manner
that cannot be duplicated in the classroom or through textbooks. These
experiences may result in graduate theses and dissertations, and assist
students in defining their career goals. Interns become aware of the
professional practices and ethics of a workplace environment.
Opportunities exist for students who want practical museum experience in fields such as:
· Art and art history
· Natural history, ecology, environmental history, wildlife
biology, geography, and geology
· History, American studies, historical development of firearms
· Plains Indian ethnology, anthropology, and Plains Indian culture
· Technology, education, collections, exhibitions, photography,
publications, graphic design, library/archives, and communications

JOB DESCRIPTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Job descriptions, learning agreements, and reading lists are provided
to the intern during orientation. Interns complete a special project,

overall museum responsibilities. The supervisor assigns specific intern
job responsibilities. Interns are required to participate in orientation,
training and evaluation sessions. Additional requirements for academic
credit are variable and are established by the academic supervisor
at the intern's college or university.

Interns receive a stipend of $7.25 per hour, based
on a full-time schedule of 40 hours per week. Housing is the responsibility
of the intern. The BBHC maintains a housing file that is available
to incoming interns. Availability of housing is plentiful during the
winter but somewhat limited in the summer. Most interns have been
able to locate housing at rental rates of $400-$600 per month, depending
