The Buffalo Bill Historical Center recognizes that the very nature of our extraordinary collections means that others may wish to borrow art and artifacts from our vaults.
Due to the volume of requests for loans from the Historical Center, we have implemented the policies below. Evaluating requests and processing loans are time-consuming tasks. Therefore, if requests are not received within the time frames outlined below, most—unfortunately—will have to be denied.
Loan requests for foreign venues, including exhibition opening and closing dates, must be received by the Executive Director's Office at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center at least ten months in advance of the opening date. All supplementary materials for a foreign request (facilities reports, hygrothermograph readings, insurance provisions, etc.) must be received at least six months in advance of the opening date.
Loan requests for domestic venues, including exhibition opening and closing dates, must be received by the Executive Director's Office at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center at least eight months in advance of the opening date. All supplementary materials for a domestic request (facilities reports, hygrothermograph readings, insurance provisions, etc.) must be received at least four months in advance of the opening date.
After a loan has been approved by the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, information on any additional venue(s) or change of dates for any venue(s) requested for another exhibition tour must be submitted for review at least three months in advance of the exhibition opening date.
At the Buffalo Bill Historical Center's discretion, the borrower may be requested to prepay estimated loan expenses. Such payments must be received prior to shipment and no later than indicated on the invoice. Otherwise, expenses already incurred must be paid, and the loan is subject to cancellation.
Please initiate all loan requests to the attention of the Buffalo Bill Historical Center Registration Department:
