Western enthusiasts are gathering in Cody to experience the excitement and synergy of a tradition that goes back many years. Cody is a place where the roots of western style and design have grown deep into the rocky
soil and these roots are constantly nourished by an established community of committed artisans, craftspeople, museum curators, and business leaders.
Through the influence and strength of Cody High Style and the Western Design Conference, the state of Wyoming continues to be recognized the world over as both the preserver and celebrator of western style and design traditions, and the place to find the latest efforts by fresh new talent and seasoned professionals.
I would like to acknowledge our fellow artisans, fashion designers, and craftspeople from outside our area—who share common accomplishments and problems, and who show up year after year, either to exhibit their work or participate in the general camaraderie and sharing of ideas and experiences. All this creates a crossroads of energy, passion, and excitement that is at the heart of what happens at this September gathering in Cody.
Couture fashion is an essential element of Cody High Style. Just as furniture makers and decorative artists have elevated their craft from the utilitarian to the sublime, fashion designers have brought western clothing from its rough frontier beginnings to creations that can proudly strut on any runway in the world.
Finally, there is another group that must be acknowledged—our patrons. These are the interior designers, the gallery owners, the private clientele, and the scholars, authors, and publishers who write about our work and promote us to the outside world. Even the suppliers of our tools and materials and all things we need to make our products are patrons in a sense. Without their existence or support, it would be hard to be in business.
So with that being said, I wish to extend a very warm western welcome to everyone. Welcome to Wyoming, to Cody, and to Cody High Style!
